Why is it that being in conflict has so many negative connotations attributed to it? Why is compromise held up on such a pedestal? When conflict arises, often the easiest thing to do is to whip up an easy compromise so that both parties are mostly satisfied. While this can be a handy strategy, there comes a time when real communication is needed to sort through disagreements. What is most important to communicate is whose side each party is on, and not only that but also why they’re on that side. Without an acceptable explanation of why each party holds their respective views, an agreement can almost never be found. The reasoning of each party gives everyone involved the opportunity to reflect on their own perspectives to either strengthen their views or change them. The strengthening of views through conflict is an amazing thing because the next time a conflict arises on the topic, your perspective will be ready to be defended.
